Chiwon Shawara [Liver Disease]

Chiwon Shawara

[Liver Disease]

 Shawara is an ailment that affects the liver, it is also called Chiwon Hanta also Liver Disease or Hepatitis.

Traditional Medicine Practitioners have from a time long ago (tun filazam) treated this condition with herbs in singular or combined herbs formulae, as powder or liquid in means of dispensation.

In traditional medicine sickness is either of Zafi [Heat Syndrome] or of Sanyi [Cold Syndrome] and is treated by resolving the imbalance with Zafi or Sanyi temperament herbal preparations.

Shawara has symptoms which include (but not limited to):

·        Kasala (general feeling of weakness (-laziness))

·        Rawayan Ido (yellowing of the eyes)

·        Chanza Fitsari (change in Urine colour)

·        Yawan Barchi (much sleeping)

·        Tsoron rana ko hantsi (fear/dislike of sunlight or heat)

·        Zazabi (fever)

·        Chiwon Kai (headache)

·        Tsoron Maiko (dislike of oily foods)

·        Kumburin Chiki (bloated, swollen or heaviness of the stomach)

·        Amai (Nausea / vomiting)

·        Rama (loss of weight)

Possible Causes of Shawar include;

·        Guba (toxins)

·        Gado (inheritance)

·        Rauni (injury)

·        Daji (roughly translated as cancer)

Causative understanding of Shawara by the TMP;

·        Kumallo (bile) ke sa rawayar ido

·        Hanta ke yin kumallo

·        Matsarmama ke ajiyanta

·        In kumallo ya yi yawa har matsarmama ta kasa rike ta zata jawo rashin lafiya.

Then we look at the dabi’ar gaba (temperamental components of organ affected) and dabi’ar sababi (temperament of cause).

Gaban Zafi

Dabian gaban zafi

Sababi Zafi

Dabian sababi Zafi

Treatment is then formulated to balance the temperament of the affected organ or organs as the case might be by the TMP, in this case the objective is to Daidaita dabi’ar Hanta (to balance / regulate the temperament of the Liver)

The herbal treatments are the put together with herbs which have the corresponding temperaments that will bring the needed balance.

We can comfortably say over the centuries from oral reports and patients reports that preparations by TMPs has played a role in the healing process of Shawara in the society.

It is always advisable to consult a qualified Traditional Medicine Practitioner (TMP).
